Sporobolus heterolepis
Clump-forming perennial grass featuring green finely textured leaves that turn golden yellow in fall. Cloudy panicles of fragrant pale pink to tawny flowers open on long stems in late summer. Heat and drought-tolerant. A short grass that will not overtake your garden. It is a nice groundcover for hot and dry areas with a unique fragrance that resembles coriander. Beautiful in rock gardens and provides the background to accentuate other perennials. Easy to grow and tolerates a variety of soils, including dry, rocky, and heavy clay. Mature seeds drop on the ground in fall, but does not easily self-seed. Deer tolerant.
Native to Ontario.
